INTRO TO AERIAL YOGA

WITH LISA

Saturday, January 11th

12:30–2pm

Price: $35 + tax

This workshop is strongly recommended if you're going to attend the aerial class in future but had no experience before.

It is an introduction to the fundamental skills used in aerial yoga. The workshop includes:

  • Aerial yoga terminology

  • How to safely enter and exit your hammock

  • How to use your hammock to supplement traditional poses for greater depth and engagement

  • How to perform a variety of foundational poses using the aerial hammock: including standing, tabletop, seated, aerial and inverted poses for a fully balanced yoga class.

*Note: hanging upside down is optional

Learn to become comfortable allowing the hammock to hold the body and to finish off a suspended restorative Savasana to experience the comfort and relaxation of floating rest.

A few important things to be aware before doing an aerial class:

  1. Prefer empty tummy, but if you must eat, please no heavy food for two hours before aerial yoga.

  2. Wear form-fitting clothes. T-shirt and yoga pants. Avoid looser tops or wide bottomed yoga pants, it may become tangled in the yoga swing!

  3. Arrive at least 15 minutes early. Allow yourself time to choose proper height hammock.

  4. Do NOT wear any jewelry to the class as it’s safety hazards as well as can easily damage the hammock.

  5. Aerial yoga is not recommended for people who are pregnant or for whom hanging upside down is not medically advised. This includes, but is not limited to, people with eye conditions such as cataracts or detached retina, as well as people with unregulated blood pressure.

The benefits of aerial yoga:

A combination of the arts and athletics, aerial yoga offers several physical and psychological benefits:

Improves flexibility, stability, balance, strengthening core and decompression for the joints, mainly spine. Releases tension. Hanging upside down and inverting can decompress the joints, which can compress over time due to gravity and age. It also brings the playfulness out of every one of us. So much fun!!
